About me
Hi, I'm Theo.
I am a photographer and filmmaker based in Corvallis, Oregon. I work with both digital and film photography, and I enjoy creating images that feel honest, simple, and human. My work ranges from portraits and events to sports, documentary projects, and commercial content. Photography has taken me to a wide range of places and communities. I have photographed professional athletes, domestic and international businesses, wineries, families, nonprofit organizations, and firefighters. I am especially drawn to stories about people and tradition, as well as the spaces they call home.
My background is a little different than most photographers. I grew up in an Air Force family, moving frequently throughout my childhood. From a young age, I was exposed to different cultures, communities, and ways of seeing the world. Those experiences taught me that people can approach the same situation from very different perspectives. I graduated from Whitman College with a degree in Environmental Studies and Anthropology, where I learned to see the world through a different lens. Anthropology taught me to pay attention to culture and the meaning behind everyday actions. It also changed the way I approach a camera. I think carefully about where I position myself, how I enter a space, and how my presence affects the people I am photographing.
That perspective has led me to focus on rites of passage and community traditions. Some of my favorite projects include documenting volunteer firefighters in the Pacific Northwest, Olympic Trials in Indianapolis, and Los Quintos, a coming-of-age ritual in rural Spain that I have spent several years photographing and filming. I am drawn to the moments when people accept a sense of responsibility and become part of something larger than themselves.
When I'm not behind a camera, you can usually find me outside. I spend a lot of my free time hiking the forest trails behind my house with my dog, Winnie. I also enjoy sports and have spent much of my life competing. Swimming has been a constant for me since childhood, and I still enjoy getting in the water whenever I can. Outside of swimming, I enjoy playing ultimate frisbee, basketball, and soccer.
